3 Crucial Things Affiliate Marketers Need PDF Print E-mail

After reading a lot of materials and learning tons of lessons on Affiliate Marketing, you have finally put up your site and have started promoting the products relevant to your niche market. You placed a visitor counter and other forms of hit counting and visit tracking mechanisms on your site and then you sit back and relax. But after a few days and weeks of daily checking on your site and looking at the activity logs, you check on your affiliate stats and find that no product has moved yet.

What happened to the stream of visitors and eager customers you longed for? Yes, there is not much competition hindering you on your chosen niche, but there seems to be not much activity of any other kind either. Is it time to get frustrated and despair over your affiliate marketing efforts?

Don't despair! You have just reached a natural barrier in your learning curve. It is time now to start tweaking your affiliate sites to find out what works and what does not and keep on continuing to improve your performance. In this article, I will talk about three important things that you need to do to improve your affiliate marketing results.

1. Promote your products in separate web pages. If you have several affiliate products that your are recommending as relevant to the particulat niche topic that you are covering on your site, don't lump them all together on a single page since they will just be competing among themselves. Make sure that each product gets the amount of attention that it deserves.

You may create separate articles highlighting the benefits of the products you are promoting but they should lead your visitor to a unique page for each product where they can be convinced of the product's desirable qualities and move them to act on it in the way you  desire them to. For each of these articles, create attractive headlines that will lead your visitors to read and know more about the product you are promoting or even better, to contact you to ask for more.

2. Research shows that a sale is usually closed on the seventh interaction with a prospect. This means that you need to engage a potential customer into a series of contacts that will eventually lead them into a sale. In my article "Understanding the Principles of Permission Marketing", I gave a glimpse into author Seth Godin's relational marketing strategy of "turning visitors into friends and friends into customers." How then do you get your visitor to interact with you in an increasing level of permission?

Offer freebies to your readers. It could be free reports, free software, or anything that would be interesting and relevant to your visitors. Place your offers on an area of your web page that would be easy to spot. In succeeding articles, I will discuss the use of autoresponders that will help you create a series of interactions with your potential customers that can run on auto-pilot. You only need to intervene if there is a possibility of speeding up the process of closing a sale.

Give your readers useful information and they will keep on coming back for more. While doing this, keep on reminding them about the benefits of the product that you are promoting and sooner or later you will find that you have closed a sale with a delighted customer. By focusing on what your reader can possibly get from your product, you will be selling without making your offer sound like a sales pitch.

3.Sales is still a numbers game and will always be. To eventually raise your site to a successful level of affiliate marketing, you need to bring in more and more traffic to your site. And it's not just traffic that you seek, it mus be the kind of traffic that is targeted to your product. Build up links bank to your website by submitting the articles that you write to online publications like e-zines. This will open up your site to more potential visitors that are interested in what you are offering.

"Content is king" is not a tired cliche. Build up content and your site will incresingly perform better in search engines. Try to produce at least 2 articles per week, with a minimum of 300 to 600 words in length. This kind of activity can possibly bring in as many as 80 to 100 interested readers to your site. If 1 out of every 100 people are likely to end up in an affiliate sale, getting 1000 targeted visitors to your website each day will result in 10 sales each and every day.

Do the math. :-)
